“The Internet pretty much ruined everything”
/ Marco on how kids without skills got a venue nowadays
Marco Hernandez
Tattoo Artist
Wilmington, Long Beach, CA USA
Marco's main motivation for traveling all around the world to different tattoo conventions is to try new food, drink beer with foreign friends and meet new cool people. According to Marco there are successful tattooers that actually hate people. But still got lots of clients because of their skills. And then there are artists that merely can hold their hands steady while practicing but are fully booked anyway just because they are so loveable characters.
The best is of course to have both - social and artistic skills - and probably the fastest way to reach success. That's the path Marco has been walking. He's been practicing since he was 15 and his two shops in Olympia have been open for over 5 years by now. He says that nowadays you don't even have to be good at your craft whether its tattooing or graffiti painting and still get famous thanks to the Internet. It's like a venue for those who want to get famous without putting any effort in what they do. The total opposite of the way Marco is doing it. Keeping a low profile, working hard, working professional and building a world wide reputation as one of the best of tattoo artists out there.
Marco is wearing khaki 874 work shorts.
