“You got beat by an asian woman driver”

“My Name is Sera Trimble. Most current nickname is probably - Thor. When I go to Starbucks, I tell them my name is Thor, because I like them yelling it at the end where I pick up the coffee. Ha, it started as a joke, and somewhere the name stuck. Now I use it mostly for my racing name at go-kart tracks. But RECENTLY I wanted to change my racing name to ‘Asian Woman Driver’.... So when I WIN, you can look at the scoreboard and I can say ‘Jeez, you guys all got beat by an Asian Woman Driver?’ Ha. Since by stereotype they are horrible.”

Yes.
I went to Art School in Seattle for a couple years for photography. Decided I didn’t want to do photography for work, so I started working at a hotel. The next four years as a valet was all because I wanted to Travel. Valet is an easy way to make a decent amount of money, with no real tie downs or responsibilities that need constant attention. You could work and save money for a couple months, then go wherever you want! As long as you could afford it and come back with some money to spare! So, over the years ALL I wanted to do was travel.

So when I was working in Seattle, a film crew from LA stayed at my hotel. They were all really nice and fun. The director saw me driving around and asked: “Have you ever thought of driving in commercials and movies?” “Um, didn’t think there was a market for it here.” “No, you would have to move to LA, but if you want to you SHOULD. There are NOT a lot of woman who are good at it. We are actually shooting this weekend, you should come out and talk to the drivers we have on this job... see if it’s something you might want to do, ask them how to get involved.”

So I did. It was fun, I liked what I saw. Took me a few months after that to get my stuff together and drive/move to LA.

Staying on peoples couches, Learning new areas / which freeways intersect. Every day I’ve been here has been new and exciting. So much to learn about this ‘Film and Television’ industry... very different. I still keep in contact with people from that first crew in Seattle. And am lucky enough to have their support.

Trying always to move forward.

The Tuna Sandwich Story

“ I won’t tell you what I have done to cars but this is a story my boss told me once: A big function that one day came to the hotel, like a big corporate function, they came in and everybody was cool except for this one asshole in a green Mustang. He complained about the parking. He was rude, swearing and cursing. And I was like “it's cool, don’t pay for parking, just go, have a great day”.

Three months later my boss said this function came back again.
And I was like: “he didn't come back?”
Boss: “Oh yeah, he came back.”
And I said “Oh no, you didn't park his car did you?”
Boss: “Oh yeah, we parked his car.”
And he said - they took his car to the garage with a wrench, took the front seat and unbolted it and put a tuna sandwich under it and then put it back down and rebolted that seat again. And you know, in one week that tuna sandwich isn’t going to matter. In two weeks it may not matter. But in three or four weeks when it sunny and hot outside - that’s when that tuna sandwich going to matter.”
